Supervisors OK Recreational Tennis Programs

Sessions run for six weeks in the spring and eight weeks spanning June through August.

Upper Macungie supervisors, at their April 7 agenda meeting, approved spring and summer recreational tennis programs at two township parks.

Ralph Van Ormer, former head tennis professional at Brookside Country Club and Parkland High School varsity boys tennis coach Julian Taibi will run both programs.

The summer programs at will feature eight separate weeks of mini-tennis camp instruction consisting of 10 total hours of tennis. Participants may sign up for as many weeks as they'd like. A program for ages four through six will be held  four hours per week.

The scheduled weeks are:

  • Week 1 – June 13-16  
  • Week 2 – June 20-23 
  • Week 3 – June 27-30
  • Week 4 – July 11- 14
  • Week 5 –  July 18 – 21
  • Week 6 –  July 25-28
  • Week 7 –  Aug. 1-4
  • Week 8 – Aug. 8-11

Sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. One hour sessions will be held for ages four through six from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Costs are as follows:

-- Tiny Tots: $40 per child.

-- Junior Development I & II (ages 7-14):  $100 per child.

-- Junior Excellence: (ages 9-16):  $100 per child.

A high school tennis camp will be offered during instructional weeks three and seven from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $100.

Spring sessions are slated forduring a six-week span  from May 2 through June 12. The spring sessions will focus on tennis for tots age four through six and junior development for ages seven through 12.
