Splash Park Resolution Passed by Supervisors

The resolution, passed by Upper Macungie Supervisors, allows the township to apply for a state grant for the proposed $450,000 splash park at Grange Road Park.

Upper Macungie Supervisors passed a resolution Thursday night allowing the township to apply for a state grant to defray the cost of building a splash park at Grange Road Park.

The township is seeking a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) that would match up to half of the $450,000 cost of construction.

The township's 2011 Parks and Recreation survey listed a pool as the most requested facility in the township. However, funds for a pool are not available, so the decision was made to pursue a splash park.

The township developed the 162-acre Grange Road Park in phases, starting with a pavilion, restrooms and a concession stand.

The splash park stage will include an associated parking lot and restrooms.

Splash parks are areas with no standing water. They typically have ground nozzles that spray water upward. They also feature mushroom umbrellas and various types of sprayers.
