Residents Get Look at 'Lean and Mean' 2014 Budget

No tax hike or fee increases for Upper Macungie residents next year.

Upper Macungie Township's 2014 budget doesn't raise taxes or fees, but also doesn't leave much room for a rainy day fund, township treasurer Barry Moyer said Thursday.

"It's a pretty lean and mean budget," Moyer told residents at Thursday's supervisors meeting. "If it works out otherwise, that would be great."

The $14.1 million budget keeps the Upper Macungie property tax rate at .64 mills, which means the owner of a property assessed at $100,000 would pay a $64 property tax.

The biggest expenses in the budget are the police department—$3.3 million—and refuse/recycling, at $1.8 million.
