Learn a new Sport in Upper Macungie Township

Upper Macungie Township will hold clinics set for volleyball, softball and golf

 

Spring's arrival in the next two weeks can only mean one thing: It's time to start enjoying outdoor sports and recreation activities.

officials have announced some lessons on volleyball, softball, golf and tennis that will allow residents to get down the fundamentals so they don't have to look silly playing with friends and family.

  • On April 17, a one-day volleyball clinic will be held at . The program will cost $25 and is specifically for adults: beginners to the intermediate level. The program will teach basic volleyball skills.
  • On Aug. 8, a softball clinic will be held for ages 8 to 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at . The cost is $35.
  • Golf programs will be in full swing starting on April 18 through June 6 with a spring session geared as an introduction to golf for ages 6 to 14. The sessions at Independence Park cost $50. Then, starting in July and going through August, a golf camp will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost for the camp is $200 per player.
  • Township officials said plans are also in the works for a tennis clinic. The township tried to launch the program last year, but got a late start, Supervisor Kathy A. Rader said.

This year, though, the township has hooked up win an instructor from Florida and will have a clinic for kids and possibly one for adults. Rader said the township has also received a $60 donation for family fishing.

The money will be used to stock a few hundred fish in the pond at . In other business, Rader said the township would apply for two Growning Greener grants and an Infrastructure Development Program Grant.
