Popular Restaurant Hit by Fire Considers Relocation to Upper Macungie

Madeline's restaurant of Orwigsburg in Schuylkill County was damaged by fire in June; owner considers a move to Upper Macungie.

A popular Schuylkill County restaurant that was damaged by fire in June is considering a move to Upper Macungie in 2013.

The owner of Madeline's of Orwigsburg came before Upper Macungie Township supervisors last Thursday to seek the transfer of a liquor license from the former Charlie Brown's in South Whitehall to the proposed Madeline's at 7801 Glenlivet Drive in the township. That would be the same shopping center as the new Weis Markets superstore that opened Sunday.

The supervisors granted the request.

Madeline's proprietor, Nadine King, said she hopes to open in Upper Macungie in the fall of 2013 but still had to go through all the township building permits and planning process.

Madeline's restaurant was severely damaged by fire in June. Located at 1100 E. Market St. in Orwigsburg, the casual fine dining restaurant caught fire overnight and received extensive damage, according to a WFMZ report.

Manager Jerry Blecker said Wednesday the restaurant is still weighing its options, including whether to rebuild at the site and open a second location in Upper Macungie or whether to relocate to the township.

Charlie Brown's also was the site of a fire after it was already closed.
