A request to rezone parcels of land between Cetronia and Schantz roads, near the South Whitehall Township borders, will go before the Upper Macungie Plannning Board and the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Township Solicitor Andrew Schantz told Upper Macungie Supervisors last week that developer Kushner Real Estate Group of New Jersey wants the township to change the zoning on the land from light industrial to neighborhood commercial.

The developer wants to build a strip mall and a grocery store on the site, which sits behind the recently built St. Luke's medical facility and an apartment complex that both sit in South Whitehall Township.

Supervisor Sam Ashmar, who also sits on the Planning Commission, said he wanted input on whether the rezoning would stop at the planned parcels of land or extend out to Interstate 78.

Supervisors voted to send the matter back to the Planning Board for further review.
