Parkland To Change Jaindl School Boundaries

Parkland officials say the rapid growth in Jaindl's student population is triggering proposed changes in the school's boundaries.

Citing a growing enrollment at ,  officials are redrawing the school's boundaries, a move that could potentially send 105 of its students to the Fogelsville Elementary School for the 2012-2013 school year.

However, affected students who will be entering third, fourth and fifth grades would be "grandfathered in" and given the option to stay at Jaindl Elementary School, Assistant Superintendent Rod Troutman told the Parkland school board at its meeting Tuesday night.

He said those students had already faced change two years ago when they were sent to the new Jaindl school from Fogelsville.

Students entering kindergarten, first and second grades in the next school year would follow the newly drawn boundaries, he said.

Currently, Jaindl has 669 students and Fogelsville has 436 students, Troutman said. By redrawing Jaindl's boundaries, the populations at the two schools would be more evenly split. Both schools are in Breinigsville.

Patch first reported in October that Parkland officials were student populations because of the growth in the Breinigsville area of the district.

Also, earlier in November, Patch reported that the district will send a whose children are in second, third and fourth grades at Jaindl Elementary School, asking whether they want their children to stay there or move to  for the 2012-2013 school year.

Even though the Jaindl school is only in its second year of operation, "We know already we need to make some changes," Superintendent Richard Sniscak told the school board on Tuesday before Troutman's presentation.

Troutman told the board that officials are being mindful of school class sizes as they propose the changes in boundaries.

Jaindl has exceeded the school district’s growth expectations since its construction. Officials point to new "affordable housing" developments in that area of the district, primarily new townhouses. Because of the growth, some new students already have been .

Troutman said the Breinigsville area is the only growing area of the district.
