Parkland Considers Starting School Earlier

Starting the school year before Labor Day would allow Parkland School District to better plan for bad weather.

Parkland schools may open before Labor Day next year, which will allow the district to schedule around hurricanes and snow days, according to The Morning Call.

Nicole McGalla, Director of Community Relations for Parkland, said in the reports that if students start earlier, they will also have more time to prepare for the new testing system, the Keystone Exams, that essentially will serve as students’ final exams.

Parkland began this school year Sept. 6 and must get 180 full school days into the calendar. Inclement weather at the start of the year and during winter has made keeping to that schedule tricky.
