Retail Store Construction at Weis Starts In June

Engineer says he's hopeful for a June groundbreaking on retail stores at the Weis Markets complex in Fogelsville, once all proposals have been approved.

Construction of new retail locations at the Weis Markets shopping complex in Fogelsville could begin as early as June, once all approvals are secured.

That process continued Wednesday night when the Upper Macungie Planning Commission heard a resubmission of land development plans for the project.

"We'd like to start construction as soon as we get approval," said Christopher Falnecki of Weiser Engineering Consultants LLC of Wernersville. "It's almost April now and we could break ground sometime in June."

The owner of the property at 7801 Glenlivet Drive West is Weis Markets Inc. of Sunbury, and the equitable owner, Route 100 Associates LLP of Hamburg.

The 2.906-acre property plan would house a 9,375-square-foot multi-use retail establishment. The second retail building is pegged at 8,400 square feet.

Site improvements will consist of at least 99 new parking spaces, access and utilities for the three new facilities.

The commission's approval, which would have to come at a future meeting, is also subject to approval by the township's Board of Supervisors.

In a related matter, Weis will appear before planners at a later date to propose a Gas-N-Go fuel station. That proposal received a zoning variance earlier this month.
