Invertigo Coaster May Be Coming To Dorney Park in 2012

South Whitehall planners will consider the park's application for a new 138-foot-high ride tonight

is proposing a new 138-foot-high coaster in the western portion of the park, where the old Laser Coaster used to be located.

A sketch of the proposed coaster submitted to the South Whitehall Township planners identifies it as the Invertigo coaster at Great America, which is in California.

However, it was not clear whether the specific ride would be moved to Dorney Park or a similar ride would be built.

Dorney Park's spokesman could not immediately be reached.

Dorney Park's owner Cedar Fair L. P. is seeking approval for the new ride from the South Whitehall planners, who meet at 7:30 tonight at the municipal building.

Cedar Fair also owns Great America, which indicates on its wesbsite that Invertigo is moving to another Cedar Fair park. It did not name Dorney as the park.

The coaster, which takes riders on upside down loops, was at Great America for 12 years.  According to published reports, 24 riders got stuck on the ride for hours in 2009 because of a mechanical failure. No one was injured.

According to the park's application to South Whitehall planners, existing kiddie rides, a basketball game and concrete midways would be removed at Dorney Park to make way for the ride, station, concrete walkways and an electrical building.

The ride would affect about 1. 7 acres of the 187-acre property, according to the application
