The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police have just unveiled an anonymous tip line for citizens to use to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. The tip line will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The new line can be reached by dialing 610-683-8740, then pressing the number 2 when prompted.

Neighborhood crime watch members suggested the tip line, and Chief Mike Weiser made it happen, according to Community Relations Officer Pete Nickischer, who is also the department's liaison with UMT's crime watch groups. "These citizen crime watch teams have proven to be an extremely effective way to keep our streets safe," Nickischer said. "This new tip line gives us a valuable new tool to build on our momentum."

Because callers have a choice of either identifying themselves or leaving anonymous messages, your community law enforcement professionals are convinced that usage of the tip line will be a valuable tool toward fighting crime. "Sometimes folks have fear of retaliation by criminals, so they don't want to get involved," he explained. "By keeping it anonymous, they can help fight crime without fear of retribution."
