Colleagues Applaud Departing School Board President

Described as passionate, professional, gracious and 'a class act,' Jayne Bartlett steps aside after 12 years.

Jayne R. Bartlett received a standing ovation from those in attendance at her last Parkland School Board meeting Tuesday night after 12 years as a director, her last several as board president.

Before the meeting ended, fellow board members and district administrators took some time to pay tribute to Bartlett, presenting her with a couple of tokens of appreciation, including an inscribed glass vase.

After three terms, Bartlett did not seek re-election this year. David Hein, who won a four-year term in November, will replace her.

Bartlett’s colleagues showered her with superlatives to describe her contributions to the board. "Passionate," "professional" and "gracious" were just a few of the words used to describe her.

"Jayne's leadership was instrumental in guiding Parkland through its most difficult financial period," said Superintendent Richard Sniscak. "She was invaluable to me as a new superintendent."

Board Vice President Roberta Marcus described Bartlett as “a class act. It’s going to be tough not seeing you there.”

“You have led us from the heart. That’s your strength,” said Director Robert Cohen. “Presenting that type of dialogue, one is never wrong. You will be very sorely missed. Your heart will always be in ours.”

Added Director Lisa Adams: “I hope I have half of the dignity, professionalism and passion that you have for this position.”

Bartlett was moved by her colleagues’ tributes.

“What bothers me is that I may not see some of you again. That crushes me,” she said.

“I’ll never forget this night for as long as I live.”
