Cingular Wireless Wants to put Cell Tower in Upper Macungie

New Cingular Wireless is asking Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board tonight to allow it to put a 150-foot cell phone tower on Oak View Drive.

A cell phone company is slated to come before the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board this evening to seek permission to put a 150-foot cell phone tower off Oak View Drive.

New Cingular Wireless of King of Prussia is scheduled to make its appeal before the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the township building.

The property in question is at 5274 Oak View Drive and it is zoned general industrial. The township zoning ordinance permits granting special exceptions to put commercial communications towers on land zoned general industrial.  The land is owned by Patriot LLC (Hale Trailer Brake & Wheel).

New Cingular Wireless had applied to appeal for the special exception last fall but has since been on the zoning hearing board’s agenda at meetings and scratched at the last minute and sought a continuance.

According to its application, the monopole tower would be set back more than 156 feet from all property lines. The tower and an equipment shelter would be surrounded by an eight-foot chain link fence topped with barbed wire.
