$250K Grant Sought for Grange Park Improvements

A $31,000 Act 13 grant is also being sought for the remediation of Fogelsville Dam.

Upper Macungie Supervisors voted Thursday night to seek a $249,900 Act 13 grant for general improvements at Grange Park, located on Grange Road between Ruppsville Road and the Route 222 bypass.

Grange Park features a pavilion with a capacity of 100 people, which can be rented by the day. Rental fees are reduced for residents.

Additionally, Grange Park is currently equipped with a new playground, concession stand with restrooms and athletic fields for soccer, baseball, football and lacrosse.

The Grange Park area is also slated to be the home of the much anticipated new Parkland Community Library building.

Supervisors are also seeking an Act 13 grant of $31,000 to help with the remediation of the Fogelsville Dam.

The state has Fogelsville Dam, on Haasadahl Road, listed as a ‘high hazard dam’ and wants it fixed or removed. State grant money would help with costly remediation projects.

Act 13 of 2012, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection web site, enacted stronger environmental standards, authorized local governments to adopt an impact fee and built upon the state's ongoing efforts to move towards energy independence as unconventional gas development continues.

Among the Act's provisions are increased setback requirements for unconventional gas development; enhanced protection of water supplies; and strong, uniform, consistent statewide environmental standards.
