2014 Budget Looms for Upper Macungie Supervisors

The Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors will hold a special work session Wednesday to address the 2014 budget. Supervisors also will address funding for a proposed mobile command unit at Thursday's scheduled meeting.

September is the time of year when kids head back to school and municipal governments turn a wary eye toward budget season and whether they'll be able to hold the line on taxes.

Upper Macungie Supervisors start that process at 10 Wednesday morning during a special meeting to discuss the township's proposed 2014 budget.

Then, during Thursday evening's regularly scheduled meeting, supervisors are expected to address funding options for the proposed purchase of a $450,000 mobile command unit in concert with South Whitehall Township.

Meetings have been held in recent months with South Whitehall officials concerning how to fund the proposed purchase of the mobile command unit, which would be shared by both townships.

The high-tech vehicle would be equipped with the latest communications technology, including satellite, that could be used in large-scale emergencies that require unified command and control.

Recently, Upper Macungie Township secured a $15,000 grant from the Lehigh County Revitalization Grant Program to help fund the unit's purchase.
