Upper Macungie Getting Full-Time Drug Drop Off
Township is one of 10 Lehigh County departments getting permanent drug collection boxes.
A group of Lehigh County police departments are about to start offering residents a way to get rid of old prescription medications.
On Tuesday, county law enforcement officials will announce the installation of permanent medication collection boxes at 10 local police stations.
Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin and Ken Martz of Director of the Bureau ofTreatment, Prevention and Intervention, Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) are set to make the announcement at Upper Macungie Township police headquarters.
Upper Macungie police Chief Edgardo Colon said last month that one-off drug drop off programs are always successful in the township. Last time out, they took in 110 pounds of old prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The boxes are paid for by a grant program made possible by the joint efforts of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, DDAP and the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
In addition to Upper Macungie, the drop boxes can be found in:
- Allentown (10th and Hamilton streets substation)
- Emmaus
- Slatington
- South Whitehall Township
- Catasauqua
- Whitehall Township
- Upper Saucon Township
- Salisbury Township
- Slatington
