Upper Macungie Doctor Accused of Improperly Prescribing Drugs

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson is accused of improperly filling out oxycodone prescriptions.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is accusing a doctor from Upper Macungie of improperly prescribing oxycodone, according to published reports.

Agents began investigating Dr. Jeffrey Thompson when a number of pharmacies contacted the state about his prescribing practices, the Express-Times reported.

Investigators allege Thompson did not include a "do not fill" date on his prescriptions, something that's been required by law for addictive painkillers like oxycodone since 2007.

Court records show Thompson was charged with multiple felony counts, including the unlawful administration of a controlled substance by a practitioner. He was arraigned Friday before District Judge Jacob Hammond, and was free after posting $20,000 bail.
