State Police Target Teenage Drivers

Troopers issue citations, warnings and inform parents of teen driving issues.

A State Police initiative aimed at teenage drivers resulted in 32 citations and five written warnings for infractions committed by 16 and 17-year-old drivers last month in Lehigh, Northampton and Bucks counties.

Operation Safe Teen, initiated by State Police, Troop M in Bethlehem, made 31 contacts with teenage drivers for speeding and aggressive driving, police said in a release.

State Police issued 12 traffic citations and one written warning as a specific result of vehicle crashes with teenagers involved. An additional 20 citations and four written warnings were issued as a result of moving violations or equipment violations.

Police said troopers followed up these citations with parental notifications via phone calls, letters and in-person visits.

The release said the purpose of the program is to make teenage drivers more aware of the consequences of their driving behavior.

In addition, State Police at Fogelsville say no injuries were reported as a result of a Feb. 5 two-car accident on Route 222, just south of the Route 100 exit.

Police said Edgardo Padilla-Sanchez, 44, of Allentown lost control of his 2002 Toyota Tacoma at approximately 7:25 a.m. and slid off the roadway.

Padilla-Sanchez’s vehicle struck the front of a parked 2005 Ford F-150 owned by Adam Corrado of Bethlehem.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and no injuries were reported.
