Sign-ups for Junior Emergency Service Academy Start June 1

Youth police and fire courses run during the week of Aug. 8 through 12.

Sign-ups for a Junior Emergency Service Academy, held jointly by Berks-Lehigh Regional Police and the Upper Macungie Township Fire Companies in August, will begin June 1.

The one week course is scheduled Aug. 8 through 12 from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily and consist of two days of police and two days of fire department-related courses.  The final day consists of challenge courses.

The academy is open to youths of both genders between ages 12 and 16 years of age, living within the areas covered by the Upper Macungie Fire Companies or the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police.

Class size is limited to 40 cadets. Lunch will be provided each day.
