Police Chief: Uptick in Thefts 'Not Necessarily a Pattern'

Upper Macungie Police Chief Edgardo Colon said thefts from residential and commercial properties have risen in recent weeks.

Thefts from residential homes and commercial properties have risen throughout Upper Macungie Township in recent weeks, according to Police Chief Edgardo Colon.

Colon told supervisors recently that the uptick in thefts is "not necessarily a pattern," but something that happens a lot during this time of year.

Colon noted thefts of copper piping from homes and businesses appears to be problematic of late.

"The State Police are having the same problem," Colon said. "We have some very good investigators and some very good leads. We're doing what we can.

Colon urged Upper Macungie residents to police if they see any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

"It doesn't hurt to call," Colon said. "It's fairly easy for us to respond and we have a lot of resources."
