Kutztown Couple Rescued in Lowhill Twp. Wreck Escape With Minor Injuries

State police say the driver of the auto failed to yield and pulled directly into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.

A Kutztown couple pulled from Friday's morning's wreck at the intersection of Route 100 and Kernsville Road in Lowhill Township suffered minor injuries, according to a report issued Saturday by State Police at Fogelsville.

Police said John and Eleanor Knabb of Kutztown were transported by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest after their 2011 Toyota Camry was struck by a tractor-trailer owned and operated by Wal-Mart Transportation of Bentonville, Ark.

The state police report of the incident said the driver of the Toyota Camry failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled out onto Route 100 east across to Kernsville Road, directly into the path of the tractor-trailer at approximately 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The report states the driver of the tractor-trailer, Stanley Kachmarski of Shickshinny, swerved to avoid the Toyota Camry. Police said the abrupt movement of the truck caused it to roll on its right side, crushing the sedan.

The report did not specify the passenger's injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.
