Six Suspected Drunken Drivers Arrested Friday, Police Say

Upper Macungie Police report arresting six people for alleged drunken driving Friday as the Memorial Day weekend got under way. Police said they will show zero tolerance for drunken drivers on township roads.

Upper Macungie Police reported on its Facebook page that six drunken driving arrests were made Friday and added that zero tolerance will be shown to future offenders.

The department put out a stern Facebook warning to those who chance drinking and driving on township roads during the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend.

"That's six people who face license suspensions, fines and a new criminal record. Please remember this tonight when you get behind the wheel. We have zero tolerance for DUI in Upper Macungie Township," police wrote.

The six Friday arrests account for half of all of the drunken driving arrests made by the department in April. Twelve drunken driving arrests were reported last month.

Upper Macungie Police have been especially vigilant with drunken driving arrests since the department began operations in the beginning of year.

This month, Police Chief Edgardo Colon noted that the force is participating in concert with the regional DUI Task Force this month.
