Man Arrested for Killing Lehigh County Woman

Jonathan Nunez, 20, of Allentown is charged with killing Kimberly Cardona, whose body was found July 5 along Lanze Lane in Salisbury Township.

An Allentown man has been charged with killing 20-year-old ,  in a wooded area of Salisbury Township.

Jonathan Nunez, 20, of 253 E. Fairview St. was charged with homicide Thursday, according to a release from the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

Cardona's body had been found by  in the evening in the 2700 block of Lanze Lane, Salisbury Township.

Nunez was to be arraigned in Lehigh County Central Booking.

According to the release, the arrest affidavit states:

  • Cardona had injuries to her head, face, neck, hands, legs and torso.
  • A strong odor of bleach had emanated from the victim’s body, and detectives had noticed her clothing appeared to be discolored.
  • Detectives found a pair of broken glasses on the road nearby and saw numerous broken branches in foliage surrounding her body.

Cardona, 20, of Whitehall Township had been  according to her family. An autopsy by the Lehigh County Coroner's office revealed she died sometime after 7 p.m. July 4 of blunt and sharp trauma.

 told the Morning Call she didn't have a boyfriend, and that some of her past relationships had ended badly. A friend said Cardona was out with a man Tuesday who was going to take her to a restaurant, but the friend didn't know who the man was and never heard from Cardona again.

According to Facebook posts, the arrest was made earlier this morning. Friends and family of Cardona alledge that Nunez may have confessed. No confirmation has been issued from the District Attorney's office. 

The release said Salisbury police, Allentown police, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police worked together to carry out the arrest.

An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
