Lehigh County Woman Beaten, Dragged to Basement Dies

James Albright, 55, of Lowhill Township is charged in beating death of his wife, Carol Albright, 54, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.

A 55-year-old Lowhill Township man was charged Thursday with the beating death of his wife in their home, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

James Albright, 55, of 7109 Herber Road was initially charged with aggravated  assault, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and harassment against his wife, Carol Albright, 54.

His wife had been taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest on Wednesday for treatment and later died.

The charges against Albright now include homicide, according to the district attorney's office.

Pennsylvania State Police said in a release that James Albright had dragged Carol Albright by her arm to the basement of their home and restrained her on Wednesday.

She was taken to LVH-Cedar Crest, where physicians treated her for internal bleeding from blunt force trauma, according to the district attorney's office.

Police had gone to the home Wednesday, responding to a 911 call from inside the home.

Albright was being held in Lehigh County Prison on $500,000 bail. The district attorney's office said Albright is now being held without bail.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office ruled the cause of death as blunt force injuries to the body.
