Hit-Run Accident Knocks Out Power to 2,200 in Upper Macungie

A car struck a utility pole in Lowhill Township Tuesday evening, state police at Fogelsville said.

A hit and run accident in Lowhill Township resulted in power being knocked out to homes and businesses in Upper Macungie.

State police at Fogelsville said a white tractor trailer was travelling north on Route 100 at 5:39 p.m., and as it attempted to turn right onto Kernsville Road, struck a utility pole and continued on Kernsville Road without stopping.

A pole on the southbound side of Route 100 also broke as the result of the pole struck by the vehicle, police said. 

As of 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, PPL Electric Utilities reported 2,211 customers without power in Upper Macungie. At 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, 804 customers in Upper Macungie remained without power. By Wednesday morning at 9, all but one customer had power restored.

Joe's Pizza III in Fogelsville said on its Facebook page that it had to close early because of the accident and subsequent power outage.
