Goodwill Fire Co. And Community Mourn Passing Of Kathy Schmoyer

The Ladies Auxiliary President lost her battle with cancer last week.

Members of and the Upper Macungie Community are mourning the loss of Ladies Auxiliary President Kathy Schmoyer, who lost her battle with cancer Feb. 17 at age 58.

Goodwill Fire Co. members marked Schmoyer's passing with a memorial note on the sign in front of the building and by draping black bunting over the main building.

The fire company hosted a fundraising breakfast on Feb. 13 to help offset Schmoyer's medical expenses.

A Patch editor attended the event and an overflow crowd packed the facility in three different rooms -- including the engine room -- to enjoy breakfast and raise money for the cause.

Sam Ashmar, an Upper Macungie Township supervisor and Fire Marshal for the township's Station 56, said he gained a keen appreciation for Schmoyer's exceptional capability and her perseverance to serve in a leadership role with uncompromising excellence

"I have been acquainted with Kathy and her family for over 30 years.  She served our community tirelessly for many years.  She was kind, considerate and a friend to all.  Her untimely death comes as a shock and has created an enormous void to this community that she so dearly loved. Upper Macungie Township will forever be grateful for her service to our community," Ashmar said. 

Members of Goodwill Fire Co. and Ladies Auxiliary members were not immediately available for comment.
