Fire Shuts Down Friendly's Restaurant

Upper Macungie fire officials say a Wednesday morning electrical fire at Friendly's Restaurant at 6894 Hamilton Blvd. was confined to a freezer. A Friendly's employee says the restaurant would not open Wednesday.

Upper Macungie fire officials said a fire early Wednesday at Friendly's Restaurant at 6894 Hamilton Boulevard has temporarily closed the business.

Officials said all three Upper Macungie fire companies responded to a 4:28 a.m. call and found smoke throughout the building.

Fire Marshal Sam Ashmar said the cause of the fire was electrical and damage was confined to a freezer. Ashmar said firefighters were on the scene for 90 minutes and no injuries were reported.

A Friendly's employee confirmed via telephone that the restaurant would not open Wednesday. The employee said Friendly's will open when the damage is cleaned up and that would likely be Thursday or Friday.
