'Do Not Open 'til Xmas': Suspicious Package Causes Redner's Scare

Upper Macungie Police say Hamilton Boulevard store evacuated over suspicious package.

A cigar box full of coal caused a scare Friday afternoon at the Upper Macungie Redner's, according to township police.

Police say the store was evacuated after the box was discovered, placed on top of a garbage can in front of Redner's, tied with a zip-tie and baring a note that read "Do not open 'til Xmas."

Township fire companies Station 25 and 56 responded, along with the Allentown Fire Department's bomb squad.

Once officials determined the box was safe, they let the store reopen. The coal is being taken away for more testing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 484-661-5911.
