"Batman" in Lehigh Valley Goes On Despite Denver Shooting

Fans of Batman and summer blockbusters can still see "The Dark Knight Rises" at theaters across the Lehigh Valley despite a mass shooting at a midnight showing of the movie near Denver.

A killed 12 and wounded 59 early Friday in the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colo.

Locally, shows are continuing as originally scheduled, albeit under tighter security in at least one case.

Rave Theater at Promenade, Center Valley

Staff at the Rave Theater complex, the Valley's only IMAX theater, before patrons enter the ticketing area.

People can't enter Rave via emergency exits from the outside. The doors have no exterior handles. The Denver shooter may have entered the Colorado theater through an emergency exit before starting his rampage that killed at least 12 and injured 50.

Upper Saucon Police stationed two officers at Rave for last night's shows, according to Lehigh Valley Live.

Regal Cinema, Northampton Crossings

The Regal Cinema 14 in the Northampton Crossings shopping center is patrolled by one officer from Colonial Regional Police every Friday and Saturday night, according to Det. Sgt. Mike Melinsky.

Seeing an officer in full uniform at the Lower Nazareth Township theater on weekends is a common sight intended to deter crime and keep patrons safe.

Melinksy told Patch that police will step up their presence at Regal this weekend in response to the Denver movie massacre.

AMC Tilghman Square, South Whitehall Township

Shows of Dark Knight will continue as planned. A man who answered the phone at the theater in South Whitehall declined to comment on security and referred Patch to corporate headquarters.

AMC is , according to an NBC News report Friday evening.

The theater chain released the following statement:

"We are terribly saddened by the random act of violence in Aurora and our thoughts are with the victims and their families. For the safety and security of our guests and associates, we are actively working with local law enforcement in communities throughout the nation and under the circumstances we are reaching out to all of our theatres to review our safety and security procedures. Being a safe place in the community for all our guests is a top priority at AMC and we take that responsibility very seriously."
