Amazon.com Pays For Police Presence

Seattle-based online retailer ponies up for full-time police presence at Breinigsville facility.

A Morning Call report states that online retail giant Amazon.com has agreed to pay for round-the-clock police protection at the Boulder Drive facility in Breinigsville following a bomb threat last week.

Amazon.com, currently in the process of hiring hundreds of full-time workers, will get a $10,000 bill for the police protection provided by the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department, according to the report.

Township supervisors have becomein recent weeks about the number of police calls and traffic problems at the site. Supervisors called for another meeting with Amazon officials earlier this month.

The report said an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is ongoing, due to a rash of employee heat-related problems.
