Alburtis Man Hurt in Route 100 Crash

Police say two-car crash happens when driver fails to notice red light.

Upper Macungie police say an 86-year-old Alburtis man was hospitalized Thursday following a two-vehicle crash on Route 100.

According to police, the accident happened around 6:47 p.m. when John Haley, 20, of East Greenville failed to stop at a red light at Route 100 and Weilers Road.

Police said Haley, who had been heading north, collided with Edwin Colon, 33, of Allentown, who was crossing Route 100 from Weilers Road to Schaeffer Run Road.

Colon's passenger, Vito Scarna, 86, from Alburtis, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire personnel. He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital by Cetronia EMS with a head injury.

No other injuries were reported. Police said Haley will be cited for failing to stop at the red light.
