Parkland Jumps out to Early Lead, defeats Stroudsburg

The Trojans defeated the Mountaineers by a score of 35-21 Friday night at Orefield Middle School. The Trojans received the opening kickoff, and opened the scoring on a deep throw by quarterback DeVante Cross.

On the ensuing possession, the Mountaineers were deep in Parkland territory when they turned the ball over on a lateral play. Parkland recovered, and they capitalized on the turnover with another touchdown. After a few loose posessions, the Trojans returned a punt into Stroudsburg territory. Parkland scored once again on a rushing touchdown by Kareem Williams. The first quarter ended with a score of 21-0.

In the second quarter, the Mountaineers put together a long, gritty drive that ended in a passing touchdown with under a minute to play. This was the only score of the second quarter, and brought the score to 21-7 at halftime.

Neither offense scored in the third quarter, but in the fourth, both teams put together two scoring drives. Parkland scored two more rushing touchdowns to make it 35-7, but the Mountaineers scored twice at the end of the game to make the final score 35-21 in favor of the Trojans.

Parkland will take on the Whitehall Zephyrs next week at Zephyr Stadium. The last time these two teams squared off, the Trojans handed Whitehall its first loss of the season, 21-12.
