A Diamond in the Rough: JD's Sandwich Shop

Easy to overlook lies JD's Sandwich and Coffee shop in the Kuhnsville Exxon gas station on W. Tilghman Street near the intersection of Blue Barn Road. The small, but hometown mini-diner is truly a gem.

Serving a multitude of different breakfast sandwiches, bakery items, burgers and fries, it truly deserves more credit than it normally gets. With almost no exposure other than a few letters on the Exxon sign, the small, yet quaint shop is hard to find if you're not looking in the right place.

I stopped in for a spot of lunch a few days ago and ordered a straight burger, cooked medium, a basket of fries and a doughnut. Now, before I go any farther, their doughnuts are specially delivered on Thursdays and Fridays, and for $1.25, they are HUGE. Nothing like you'd get at Dunkin Donuts. Plus, they're about 100 times better.

Anyway, back to the burger. It took about ten minutes of a wait for the burger to be up, which I find to be a good sign because I know it's being cooked fresh. Once it was served to me, I could tell that I had found a new place to eat! Most places can muck up a good burger easily, and their presentation can go badly wrong. While not a super fancy restaraunt, they make one of the best burgers I've tasted for a long time. Sorry, McDonalds.

As for the fries, they were crisp, crunchy and tasted nothing like the heat-lamp specials you get at some fast food restaraunts.

Next time you're in the Kuhnsville area, (after getting your car washed at the best car wash in the lehigh valley) stop in to the JD sandwich shop located at the Kuhnsville Exxon between 6a-2p.
