In the 17th century travelers to the Middle East and Asia collected examples of marbleized papers and bound them into "books of friendship" In the 18th and 19th centuries the technique for making the papers spread across the Atlantic where they became a popular covering material not only for book covers and end-papers, but also for lining chests, drawers, and bookshelves. Learn techniques of marbleizing. Then make your own marbleized paper and use it to cover your very own book of friendship!
