Judge of elections Amanda Holt said turnout had been "fairly steady" Tuesday morning and early afternoon at the polling place at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Upper Macungie.

By 1:30 p.m. 270 people had cast ballots.

One of the big draws in the Upper Macungie, South Whitehall and North Whitehall areas appeared to be the Parkland Community Library referendum, which was asking voters to approve a higher tax to build a new $13 million community library in Upper Macungie.

Outside Trinity Wesleyan Church, Sharon Mullin stood post with a "Vote Yes" sign on the referendum. "I decided that it's important to me," said Mullin, who voluteered to be at the polls and who had chosen to go door-to-door on the issue.

She said her son is in college, but she likes to use the library. And, she said, she believes the new library would be good for the future of the children in the community.

Also at the polls were Michael Young and John Ellermann, who were promoting incumbent Ed Earley's write-in campaign for Upper Macungie supervisor. Earley is battling Republican Jim Brunell and Democrat Chris Casey for the position.

Polls are open until 8 p.m.

In addition to the library referendum and township supervisor race, voters are casting ballots for Lehigh County executive and county commissioner, which are contested races. Voters also will cast ballots for four Parkland School Board members, but the race is not contested.
