Upcoming Presentation at Penn State Keeps Beekeepers Buzzing
Penn State Lehigh Valley's Center Valley campus will be host to a presentation by the Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association on June 11.
The Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association and will hold a beekeeping seminar, titled "Some Buzz About Beekeeping," from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.
The cost is $20, and the seminar will be held on the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus in Center Valley.
Presenters will include Dr. Diana Cox-Foster, an entomologist from Penn State University; Dr. Larry Connor, an author and respected authority on beekeeping, and Suzanne Allen, a Penn State master gardener.
After registration, refreshments and the day's opening remarks, Cox-Foster will discuss honeybee health, followed by Allen, who will present "Pollinators -- Honeybees and Native Bees." Connor will take on the topic of modern queen rearing after a 30-minute refreshment break.
The three presenters will touch on:
Honeybees and beekeeping for new and experienced beekeepers
The latest honeybee and queen bee research
How to breed productive and hardy queen bees
Native pollinators
A question-and-answer forum will close out the day.
Novice and expert beekeepers are invited to attend as well as members of the public who are interested in learning about nature and the environment.
Registration is required but due to time limitations, people interested in attending the seminar should download, fill out and bring the registration form with them to the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus at 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley. The $20 cost will be collected at the door.

The Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association was organized in 1921, and has since grown to well over 100 members. The association serves beekeepers from Northampton, Lehigh, Carbon, Berks, Bucks and Schuylkill counties.
