There's Still Time to Donate to Toys for Tots

Several Lehigh Valley businesses and non-profits were drop-off points for the U.S. Marine Corps' popular toy drive.

The U.S. Marine Corps has been picking up donated toys this week from drop-off points in the Lehigh Valley, but you still have time to make donations to its popular annual toy drive.

"We definitely would love every donation," said Sgt. Kyle Richardson, who is coordinating the area Toys for Tots campaign.

Richardson said that 30 percent to 40 percent of the donated toys had been picked up at local drop-off sites on Monday, and pickups were continuing Tuesday.

"We got quite a few toys in," Richardson said. He said hundreds of families would be served in the Lehigh Valley. The Salvation Army helps with distribution.

Donated toys should be new and unwrapped.

A list of Lehigh Valley drop-off locations were available on the Allentown Toys for Tots website but pickups may have already been made.

According to its website, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys each year and distributes them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. It began in 1947.
