Bites Nearby: Chick-fil-A

The Trexlertown location is quite the hot spot.

I’m not a huge fan of fast food. Part of that comes from having a mother who frowns on any meal that comes with a toy, and part of that comes from the stomach aches I gave myself in college every time I thought a late night burger was a good idea.

So, when a friend recently suggested we eat dinner at Trexlertown Chick-fil-A, I was hesitant. Even though she assured me that it wasn’t anything like its other fast food competitors, I was a little wary. But there was a little piece of me that missed the fountain sodas and fries, so I decided to give it a try, under the agreement that, if I hated it, she was footing the bill.

Spoiler alert: she didn’t foot the bill. Read on for my review of my first non-fast-food fast food experience.

The Dishes: Two eight-piece chicken nugget meals, one with waffle fries and one with a fruit cup, and two cookies and cream milkshakes.

How’s it Taste? I was glad to see that everyone was right—Chick-fil-A is far from fast food. For one, the atmosphere doesn’t reek of grease and isn’t spotted with ketchup stains. The tables were clean, adorned with fake flowers, and a calendar of events, and our meals were delivered to us, which made me feel like I wasn’t eating in a restaurant with a play place attached to it. And—surprise! The food absolutely lived up to its reputation. I’ve heard a lot of hype about how Chick-fil-A chicken has an indistinguishable but unique and delicious taste, and, now that I’ve tasted it, I’m happy to testify that their chicken is a must-have (or at least a must-try) if you haven’t yet.

Even though my meal was delicious, I think my dinner’s ‘Most Delicious’ award goes to the Cookies n’ Cream Milkshake I had for dessert. I won’t mention any names, but I’ve been disappointed with the dessert option at other fast food restaurants, which are usually all ice cream with a thin layer of candy or cookies. At Chick-fil-A, their milkshakes have chunks of cookies blended in vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. An excellent ending to a delicious dinner.

Eat This Because: It’s an easy grab-and-go option, minus the mystery meat.

Tab: $15.00

Etc: Apparently, Chick-fil-A is quite the hot spot. The restaurant hosts live musical performances, family nights, and senior bingo throughout the month of August at their Trexlertown location. For more details, visit their website.
