After Sandy, Animal Shelter Needs Help

With no power or water, Center for Animal Health and Welfare puts out call for volunteers and donations.

When Hurricane Sandy struck, a lot of shelters made it clear that they'd provide a place for pets.

But what about the pets that don't have homes? The Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Williams Township is a go-to place for stray/unwanted animals, and since the storm hit, it's been without power.

On Tuesday evening, the shelter put out a call for help on its Facebook page.

"We do not have power, water or phone," they wrote. "We will need additional donations of water, linens, paper products till power is restored."

All animals were fine, the shelter reported. Met-Ed showed 1,620 customers in Williams without power as of 7:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The center also needs volunteers to help clear branches from its property, starting after 9 a.m. Wednesday. They're located at 1165 Island Park Road in Williams Township, just outside of Glendon.
