Local shoppers flocked to the grand opening of , a purveyor of clothing and home furnishings, at 6900 Hamilton Boulevard in Lower Macungie Township.
The store opened at the site of the former , which moved to 7150 Hamilton Boulevard in Trexlertown and opened a 74,000-square-foot store.
The late morning crowd surged through the store looking for bargains and many exited brandishing multiple shopping bags of goods.
"It's so nice to have it here," said Lisa Hoffman of Lower Macungie Township. "It's great that it's so close by, but I wish it was a little bigger. I wanted to buy clothes for my grandchildren, but the selection was a little light."
Nora Silkworth of Allentown agreed that the new location was convenient.
"I like that it's closer," she said. "It's a good place to shop. It has good prices. It's laid out nice. There's lots of parking."
The massive parking lot was nearly full by mid-morning as shoppers searched in vain for spaces within short walking distance of the store.
"I'd say it's similar to a TJ Maxx. We got some pretty good bargains," said Liz Tatkovsky of Orefield, with her three children in tow. "We got to enjoy the store. There were a lot of people in there, but the lines moved pretty fast."
Managers in the store declined to answer questions concerning the store's grand opening.
