New Weis Markets Expected to Open by Year's End

Signage is up at the Weis Markets superstore under construction in Fogelsville, and the lot is paved.

The much anticipated Weis Markets at Route 100 and Glenlivet Road in Fogelsville is expected to open before the end of the year, a source familiar with the project said Wednesday.

The company would not confirm a date, but Upper Macungie Community Development Director Ken Molony said the projected date is in early December.

The new 68,000-square-foot superstore, with its energy efficient design, is expected to achieve U.S. Green Building Council's LEED certification for significantly reducing its environmental impact. The store will use advanced techniques to reduce refrigerant emissions, the company has said.
