officials have announced its lineup for the third annual Movies-in-the-Park program, which will start with the first showing on June 15.
Valerie Brosky, the township's recreation and events coordinator, said the first movie, "Dolphin Tale," is scheduled for June 15. "" will show on July 13 and "Puss in Boots" on Aug. 10.
"With this economy, it's free entertainment," Supervisor Kathy A. Rader said. "It's one of the coolest things that we do."
Rader said the first year started with about 150 people and grew to over 400 people the second year.
"People come out with blankets, snacks and chairs. It's amazing."
Right now the recreation department is seeking movie sponsors. For $100 for one movie or $250 for all three, sponsors get their name shown on the screen before the film.
The sponsor can also distribute information at the park where the movie is showing. Sponsorships are tax deductible.
Checks are payable to: Friends of UMT Parks and Recreation. For more information on sponsorship, call 610-395-4892 ext. 38.
Before every show, at 7 p.m., there are activities for children. Over the past years, that has included face painting, water balloon games and even kids bouncing around in Sumu wrestling suits.
Food is also sponsored through a fundraiser by a fire company or another organization. Fare usually includes hot dogs, popcorn and soda. So far, there have been no weather issues in the past two years. The rain date is always scheduled for Saturday if the Friday night showing is cancelled.
Jim Soltis, UMT's parks team leader, said the township tries to come up with a theme for movie night. He said plans are in the works for a theme to go along with "Dolphin Tale" and that a theme is being planned for the Friday the 13th showing of "Super 8."
