Want Booze at Independent Park? Give 2 Weeks Notice

Upper Macungie Supervisors clarified the ordinance concerning the use of alcohol at Independent Park.

Upper Macungie Supervisors recently changed an ordinance that now specifies that anyone wanting to serve alcohol at an Independent Park function must give the township 14 days notice.

Supervisor Kathy Rader said the change was made because a township employee must be on the property when alcohol is being served and two weeks of notice is needed for logistical purposes.

"People have wedding receptions and anniversary parties there and people who have rented it have told us with little notice that they are having alcohol. Then, we have to scramble to find someone to work," she said.

Independent Park's Community Room, according to the Upper Macungie web site, seats 100 people. Its meeting room seats 40. Rentals of the facility are open to Upper Macungie residents only.

Rader said renters who serve alcohol must obtain an insurance rider.

Rader reiterated that alcohol is not permitted to be served at any other township park.
