Scarecrow Contest Added to 'Barktoberfest' Lineup

A full slate of activities including a parade, pet costume contest, K-9 acts, trick contests are scheduled and a plethora of food and drink will be available at township's first annual Barktoberfest.

A $100 prize will be up for grabs for the township resident who puts together the best scarecrow at Upper Macungie's first 'Barktoberfest,' on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Upper Macungie Dog Park.

Barktoberfest activities are  scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. The Dog Park is located at Upper Macungie Park on Route 100 in Fogelsville. Entrants will display their scarecrows and the "Best of Show" will be judged.

A plethora of events is planned for the first annual Barktobert, including:

HIGH FLYING K-9 ACT:  Six top-level canines and two world finalist handlers will be performing in an outstanding 45 minute show that starts at 1:30 p.m.

PET PARADE: Will begin promptly 12:30 p.m. Register and get your number upon arrival. Costumes will be judged during the parade and announced at 1 p.m.

PET COSTUME CONTEST: Prizes are $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place winners.

BEST TRICK CONTEST:  A $25 prize is up for grabs for the winner of the best trick contest at 1:15 p.m.

THE UMTPD K-9 UNIT: will be present for question and answer session and a demonstration.  

MCGRUFF THE CRIME DOG:  will be handing out dog treats courtesy of Annamaet Dog Foods.

KIDDY KORNER includes a bounce house, face-painting and games provided courtesy of Legacy Church.

TREAT STREET:  Bennett Automotive Group will be displaying a new Infiniti JX and handing out treats, as well as Pawsitively Perfect Pet Massage, Peaceable Kingdom and Mrs. Beasley’s Dog Training.  West Valley Animal Hospital will be offering a Free Oral Health Exam and a treat for fido.  No Nonsense Neutering will be offering micro-chipping and Passion for Paws will be offering a basic obedience demonstration. Jack Rosa-Martir of Pet-Tech offering information on Pet CPR and First Aid and a demonstration on CPR and muzzling safely. Kerber Dog Training will be offering a nose work demonstration and One Stop Pet Shop will offer nail painting and trimming.  And don’t forget to stop by Valley Central Animal Blood Bank and check out their ambulance.

A GREAT DJ: Sound Expression will be spinning a mix of Halloween songs, dog songs and top music.

FOOD: Willow Tree Grove will serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sausage sandwiches, Pennsylvania Dutch style turkey BBQ, french fries, pierogies, dipped ice cream, canned soda and iced tea

Kasey’ Lynn’s Catering will be serving bratwurst with onions and peppers, kielbasa with sauerkraut, knockwurst with lager kraut, cabbage and noodles with garlic butter, sautéed Pierogies with onions and cabbage, German split pea soup, Black Forest Ham and bean soup, apple strudel, cherry strudel, cabbage strudel, Shoo Fly Pie, eclairs, brownies, cinnamon buns, coffee and hot chocolate.

The Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a bake sale to raise money for Upper Macungie Fire Departments.

Upper Macungie Fire Departments will also have a concession stand with proceeds going to our Youth Organizations.

Admission is free. All dogs must be on a leash and under control at all times.

The rain date for Barktoberfest is Sunday, Oct. 20.
