Rec Board 5K Run/Fun Walk Slated Oct. 9

Three "Movies in the Park," have been scheduled for the summer months.

The Upper Macungie Recreation Board has slated a 5K Run/Fun Walk for Parks on Sunday, Oct. 9, beginning at the Lone Lane Park pavilion and winding through areas of the township.

The 5K race, which will be limited to 200 runners, will begin at 9 a.m. and Lone Lane Park. The Fun Run/Walk will start at 9:15 a.m.

Recreation Board members said recent surveys returned from township residents indicated such an event would be well-received.

Donations, volunteers and sponsors are currently being sought. The Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors provided seed money of $2,500 for the event, which is expected to be returned from registration fees.

All funds derived from the event will be utilized to benefit parks and recreation efforts throughout Upper Macungie Township. Registration is $25 per person.

In other recreation news, the township has announced its family-oriented"Movies in the Park," summer schedule. The dates, movies and locations are:

All movies are free of charge and begin at or near sundown.

Supervisors are still seeking sponsors for the movies and interested parties should contact the township.
