PPL Adds More Juice to Upper Macungie

PPL Electric Utilities will construct a new substation to add electricity to growing parts of the township.

PPL Electric Utilities plans to add more and better electric service to by constructing a new substation and tap line on property owned by the utility at Long Lane and Tillage Road.

"There has been a lot of residential growth in the area," said Paul Worth, a PPL spokesman. "The existing power lines are overloaded and we need to upgrade them."

Worth said the company will tap into a transmission line located on the property owned the utility and create an above-ground substation that will improve reliability for customers in Upper Macungie, Trexlertown and Fogelsville.

"We'll tap off that existing line to create the local substation," Worth said.

Worth said the company has filed a letter of notification to the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission in January. The commission must approve the project before work can begin,
