Allentown Mayor to Participate in Canonization

Ed Pawlowski will be at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York on Thursday.

The following was provided to Patch:

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski will take part in the Canonization Celebration of Blessed Popes John XXIII and John Paul II at 7 p.m. on April 27 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.  The Canonization Ceremony will take place earlier in the day in the Vatican City.

The Celebration will feature musical performances and readings in English, as well as Italian and Polish, to reflect the native language of the two Popes.  Polish Mezzo Soprano Edyta Kulczak of the Metropolitan Opera will perform, while popular Polish singer Urszula Dudziak will read the text in Polish.  Italian writer, film director, journalist and New York University Professor Antonio Monda will read in Italian.

Pawlowski was invited by Mateusz Stasie, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York to read the English version of several excerpts written by the late Pontiffs.  These include the Encyclical of Pope John XXIII on establishing universal peace in truth, justice, charity, and liberty, delivered in 1963, and the Homily of Pope John Paul II from the inauguration of his pontificate, presented in St. Peter’s Square in 1978.
