PBS39 On-Air Host, Station Manager Leaving

Amy Burkett, a Lehigh Valley television fixture since 1999, is named new station manager at Charlotte, N.C., PBS station.

TV host Amy Burkett, well-known to those who are fans of Lehigh Valley PBS/WLVT, is leaving for Charlotte, N.C., the Bethlehem-based station has announced. Burkett has been named the general manager of WTVI, Charlotte’s PBS station. Burkett will also be the director of Digital Media Studies at Central Piedmont Community College, which holds the station's license. Burkett has been WLVT-TV, PBS39's station manager since 2011. She had just become the station's executive vice president this year. She joined in 1999 to create and host its weekly news magazine show Tempo. During her tenure, Burkett and her team received four national public television awards, eight Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards, 28 regional Emmy nominations, …

Lehigh Valley Zoo Opens With Wolf Howling Contest

Celebrate the Lehigh Valley Zoo's season opening Saturday with the new North American Trail exhibit and a day of fun activities.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo's season opening begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with a celebration of the new North American Trail Exhibit where visitors can meet the zoo's newest residents, followed by a day of activities. Dutch Springs Opens Saturday to Scuba Divers

Dutch Springs in Lower Nazareth Township will open for the 2013 season on Saturday, but only to scuba divers.

Dutch Springs in Lower Nazareth Township will open for the 2013 season on Saturday, but only to scuba divers. Those looking forward to the AquaPark and Sky Challenge will have to wait for Memorial Day weekend. According to www.dutchsprings.com, the park will be open for scuba diving every Saturday and Sunday in April from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. Click here for the full 2013 schedule. Dutch Springs has been known for years to scuba enthusiasts as a prime diving spot. The 50-acre lake was once a limestone quarry for the former National Portland Cement plant. $299K Grant to Train Students in LV Manufacturing Jobs

Gov. Corbett comes to Lehigh Career & Technical Institute with money to train students for high-tech manufacturing jobs. One of the biggest obstacles, he says, is overcoming manufacturing's outdated image.

The Lehigh Valley is getting state money to train students in high-tech manufacturing jobs. Gov. Tom Corbett announced the $298,500 grant Thursday at the Lehgh Career & Technical Institute in Schnecksville. The money will fund Skill Up, a collaboration of LCTI, the Manufacturers Resource Center, the DaVinci Science Center and the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board to develop students with the advanced skills and education necessary to support the manufacturing sector. Sandy Himes, executive director of LCTI, said manufacturing jobs in the Lehigh Valley are going unfilled because there are not enough trained workers with the right skills to fill those positions.
