Is Costco Still Coming to Town?

What's happening with the proposed Hamilton Crossings shopping center that will feature the Lehigh Valley's first Costco store?

The $140 million Hamilton Crossings shopping center in Lower Macungie—set to feature the area's first Costco—will be up for an important vote at next week's East Penn School Board meeting, according to a WFMZ report. The school board will be the first of three government bodies asked to approve a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) plan to help pay for the project. A TIF is an economic tool to help develop a site that requires a large amount of money to pay up-front costs. In this case, waste from iron mining must be removed and stormwater problems fixed before the land can be developed. Ideally, the school district, Lower Macungie Township and Lehigh County will each approve their portion of the TIF. The school board meets Monday night. Lehigh …

Weis Shopping Center Could Get More Stores

Upper Macungie Supervisors give preliminary approval to a plan for building stores at the Fogelsville Weis shopping center.

The prospect of additional retail stores at the Fogelsville Weis shopping center at Route 100 and Glenlivet Drive West took a step forward recently when Upper Macungie Supervisors approved a preliminary lot consolidation plan. Engineers representing Weis Markets said ground at the site could still start being prepared for construction by June. The second retail building is pegged at 8,400 square feet. Site improvements will consist of at least 104 new parking spaces, up from 99, and access and utilities for three new facilities. It works out well for us because we only live 15, or so mins, away. I can't take the crowds !!! Going after 5 is good too especially during the week. 4 Upper Macungie Restaurants Have Code Violations

The Pennsylvania Food and Safety web site reports 11 food establishments inspected in Upper Macungie in a three-month period. Four had at least one health code violation.

If you are interested in reading a particular establishment's inspection sheet, please go to the Pennsylvania Food and Safety Web site and type in the name of the establishment. The results of recent inspections are as follows: About this column: From the PA Food Safety Website - "Disclosure: Please remember that any inspection is a 'snapshot' of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment."
