The Upper Macungie Township Police Department headquarters, at 37 Grim Road, was dedicated Tuesday.

Local officials and police from surrounding towns gathered Tuesday under cold, gray blustery skies to officially dedicate the new Upper Macungie Police Department headquarters.

About 100 people, including Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin, attended the ceremony in front of the new station at 37 Grim Road.

"There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said," said Chief Edgardo Colón. "We're eager to get to work. We're at the end stage now with planning and components and want to get the momentum started."

The new police force, after separating from the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department, started its service to the community Dec. 31.

During the brief ceremony, Colón was quick to thank people throughout the community who were instrumental in bringing Upper Macungie its own police force.

"We have truly remarkable people," Colón told the gathering. "You have a Board of Supervisors that is truly concerned for the welfare of the community. I want to thank the community at large. We are committed to be as proactive and progressive as we can be."

Colón also thanked the 28 officers of the police department for the services they'll be providing to the community.

The new building boasts state-of-the art police equipment throughout, from a new evidence room to a gym and locker rooms for the officers.

The first floor houses administrative offices and conference rooms. The bottom floor boasts officer work areas, including a computer room, the evidence room, locker room, the gym, a garage and a holding cell.
